Fall Town Meeting Warrant Articles in Support of Affordable and Attainable Housing

The Town of Orleans is committed to investing in housing to keep our community thriving, attractive, and affordable year-round. In support, two articles were on the Fall Town Meeting Warrant:

ARTICLE 20: Affordable Housing Trust Funds - $500,000 in funding for the Affordable Housing Trust; and

ARTICLE 21: Year-Round, Workforce Housing Initiatives - $500,000 for other housing initiatives in Orleans (“lease to locals” program, year-round deed restrictions, outreach and community support programs)

Both of these Articles passed at Fall Town Meeting!  Please continue to follow news from the Town of Orleans to see how this money will support community housing needs.

These funds will make sure opportunities are available for friends and neighbors in need now, and to make sustainable investments for future generations. The Town’s Housing Trust, Housing Committee, Planning Board, Economic Development Committee and other groups are working together in support of the Select Board’s housing goals on a plan to address housing needs through the restoration of places in which people and businesses can thrive and prosper:

The Trust funding will support successful completion of affordable housing projects that are currently underway and allow the Trust to continue to be responsive to opportunities as they arise. For more information about what the Trust has achieved, visit their website.

The Initiative funding will allow the Town to broaden its focus to support year-round and workforce housing needs, and take advantage of new programs and opportunities that have just opened up on the state level. These are likely to include incentives to landlords to lease year-round, instead of short-term; a pilot program to purchase year-round deed restrictions on existing housing units; and support for connecting residents in need with housing resources.
