OSV Update: Nauset North (Residents)

At this point in the season, it has become apparent that the OSV access via Callanan’s Pass will not be opening unless a significant weather event deposits a large amount of sand. Although the beach has built substantially, it still lacks profile for an OSV corridor and the turning radius for OSV to climb the steep ramp via Callanan’s. Even with permitted trail maintenance, the scale of the amount of sand needed is beyond realistic.  We have investigated all options, including re-routing the trail, and none have proven feasible at this point.

Given the dynamic nature of the barrier beach, there is no reason to think that this fate is permanent. As upsetting as this news is, we very much appreciate the patience and understanding of the Orleans community during this challenging season given the cards we have been dealt.  Please continue to have faith that we are doing everything we can to find a way to provide access in the future.
