The Health Department and the Board of Health are two distinct but interconnected entities. Both get their authority from the Massachusetts General Laws (M.G.L), the Code of Massachusetts Regulations (C.M.R) and the Town of Orleans by-laws and regulations. The Health Department is a professionally staffed department with a Health Agent, Assistant Health Agent, a Water/Sewer Program Coordinator and Principal Clerks. The Board of Health is a regulatory board comprised of five elected members. The Board sets the town by-laws and policies, and the Health Department handles the day-to-day operations of the Department and enforces various state and local health regulations, by-laws and policies.
