Spring Flushing Schedule

The Orleans Water Department flushes their water mains every Spring the last two weeks of April and the first two weeks of May as part of our routine system maintenance to:
  • Maintain Water Quality - Flushing clears out sediment like iron and manganese which helps prevent discolored water and taste and odor issues 
  • Hydrant and Valve Use - Using the hydrants and shut off valves for flushing gives us the chance to make sure they are working properly.
  • Stagnant Water - Flushing helps to move water in areas that may have become stagnant from lack of use in the off season.
